New York Music Producer, Matt Fox

Who are your biggest musical influences?

There are so many but if I had to narrow it down to two, I'd say Oasis and Max Martin. Having grown up during the Cheiron era of 90's pop, Max has largely formed my melodic sensibilities of what a pop song should be. However, I always loved the way Oasis fused pop melodies with a ton of attitude and uniquely rugged, indie-like production. Oasis could have a very poppy song on an album followed by another song that almost sounded like Pink Floyd and then another one that sounded like pure punk rock. I value that dynamic range and never want to limit my songs or sounds by what is expected of "pop music.”

Who are your favorite songwriters?

Aside from Max Martin and Noel Gallagher, I'd definitely throw in Ryan Tedder, Diane Warren, Harvey Mason Jr., Walter Afanasieff, Brian Michael Cox, Ed Sheeran, the Gibbs brothers, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga and definitely Billy Joel. Billy is one of my all-time favorites.

Who are your favorite producers?

I'm loving Andrew Watt at the moment. Aside from being from the same hometown and having mutual friends, Andrew really captures a lot of that musical diversity I love. The way he seamlessly bounces from genre to genre is incredible. Some others include: Timbaland, obviously Max Martin, David Foster, Mutt Lange, Mark Ronson, and Ian Kirkpatrick.

Who is your favorite artist or band that is flying under the radar?

Oh easily Young Fathers. They've got some weird stuff man but when they do it right I think it's amazing. They fuse so many different types of music. I also like the rawness and lo-fi of their productions, it's very alternative and a break from the current norms.
